To the world's leading startup — the determination of a man expressed in "I will do it."

「日本“から世界”をぶち上げる」
The motif of the corporate logo is the "blue flame." The flame changes to blue as the temperature rises.
Employees working at Zeals possess qualities similar to the flame. An incredibly high level of heat and a steadfast will hidden in their hearts.
In this series, we would like to reveal the true nature of the flames that reside in them.

Takayuki Ogawa (Ryan)

Graduated from Yokohama National University, Faculty of Business Administration. During my time in school, I dedicated myself to the sports club for men's lacrosse, leading the team to be promoted to the Kanto Division 1 league as captain. In 2022, I joined Zeals as a new graduate. As the only new account planner in the first business division, I was responsible for major cosmetic brands and D2C services.

Nickname origin: A nickname from my college days. It is derived from the fact that player Ogawa of the Tokyo Yakult Swallows is called Ryan.

The Values of Zeals, Embodying a Strong Will and Giant Killing

"I will do it"

The words I wrote on Zeals' will declaration board, "WILL BOARD." This comes from a song by my favorite rapper, Ryuudo, called "I will do it," which I often listen to. I wrote this with the desire to be a person who never backs down, never escapes, and never becomes complacent, no matter what the environment is.

− Can you tell us why you chose Zeals as a new graduate?

In a nutshell, "Because I can feel the giant killing." When I was a captain in my university's lacrosse club, I had many experiences of weak teams defeating stronger teams. I experienced the interestingness of seeing the team unify behind difficult goals and being able to devise strategies to win as the central figure.

Therefore, in my job search, I wanted to join a company that challenges areas where no one has succeeded yet, even though it's not widely recognized yet. Among them, I decided to join Zeals because I was convinced that not only was the passion of the president unmatched, but every employee resonates with the vision and worldview articulated by the president, and that it would eventually become a world-leading company.

What I particularly like is the values that Zeals promotes. The phrase "BET ON PARADOX" embodies the "spirit of giant killing" that I cherish. I believe that comparing between large companies and startups is not necessary, but, like my university experience, I feel that being part of a small organization and placing myself in a phase where I can expand the organization by my own efforts would lead to a more interesting and immersive experience. I am working hard with the resolute will of "I will do it" to prove that my choice was not wrong.

− You are currently active as an account planner, what kind of work do you do?

I believe the characteristics of Zeals' account planners lie in their ability to provide solutions tailored to customers' concerns and expand services that have not yet penetrated the market. Each company's marketing activities have various challenges. In that context, it is important to continuously think about how chat commerce can contribute to marketing, and to gain commitment to entering new areas by resonating with the great potential of chat commerce. Furthermore, in considering proposals, it's vital to reflect not only on the client companies but also on delivering the best experience to the end users beyond, ensuring that we can propose a "triple win" solution, and I face this seriously every day.

− Did you aspire to be an account planner since you joined the company?

Yes. In the case of Zeals, account planners are divided into "new" and "existing" accounts, but I was focused on "new." I had a strong desire to deliver the solution of chat commerce, which is not known to the world, to many companies and consumers by my own hands.
It was said that being assigned as a new account planner right out of university was challenging from the aspect of communication skills and industry understanding. It was a difficult path, which made me want to challenge it even more, and by persistently conveying what I wanted to achieve and my vision of success, I was able to become a new account planner immediately after graduation. One of the reasons I feel good about joining Zeals is that they properly respect individual WILL.

Achieving the No.1 Sales in the Company Three Months After Joining. The Overzealous Account Planner Uses "Input" and "Playfulness" as Weapons

− You have an amazing passion. You have been with the company for almost a year now; can you share any results you have achieved?

Since joining, I have felt that the more steadily I accumulate effort every day, the greater the sense of achievement I can experience. One of my greatest achievements was being able to achieve the largest order amount among all new account planners in the company last July. At the entrance ceremony, I declared

"I will become the account planner that people think of when they hear the name Ryan!"

In other words, I declared that I would take the top spot. I set a goal to shine brighter than anyone else and be the center of attention in the company, so I was very happy that at the monthly meeting (company event), I was highlighted by the COO for my achievements. Although I still have much to learn, I want to convert my expectations and pressure into strength and get closer to my ideal self.

− Was there anything you were conscious of to succeed right after graduation?

I may have conveyed that everything went well, but during the first few months after joining, I was an overly ambitious account planner who could not secure a single order (laughs). I had a baseless confidence that I could do anything, so I was conducting sales activities which I thought were good in my own way. However, since the results were not following at all, I realized that this was not going to work and changed my mindset.
From there, I particularly focused on "input" and "playfulness." At Zeals, there are many senior colleagues who have succeeded in famous companies, and I felt that to take the top spot, the amount of input would need to be significantly more than those around me. While learning on my own, I made sure to consult with knowledgeable individuals and ensure efficient input. Also, I prioritize not hesitating to take my boss's time. I believe it's better to minimize time spent unresolved or worrying about small matters, so I make it a point to ask questions until I can explain everything in my own words, "persistently" and "playfully." By doing so, I feel that the "playful Ryan" character has become established, and my colleagues have started to lend a helping hand even for trivial matters, and I believe that tangible results have followed as well. I think this is the privilege of being a first-year graduate.

I Want to Leave an Impact That Revives My Life Like a Movie through Chat Commerce

− Finally, could you tell us how you plan to "make Japan rise to the world"?

Recently, thanks to initiatives like the collaboration with Shiseido on Instagram, we have started to see steady results in Zeals' new challenge areas. Of course, I want to weave new business models and approaches combining advertising and chat commerce, as well as utilizing zero-party data.

"Chat commerce that works globally"

This is also one of the themes I want to work on. Currently, the focus is on single product initiatives, but many of the world's leading services deal with multiple products. I believe entering this arena will significantly expand the breadth of customer service that can be delivered to consumers. Zeals has also established a local corporation in the United States and is aiming to become a world-leading chat commerce provider. To deliver genuinely personalized experiences, I want to thoroughly think about what kind of concerns consumers have and what kind of support they need in their purchasing experiences. Eventually, I want to realize a world where e-commerce transforms into customer commerce through my own hands.

− Can you also share your medium to long-term goals?

"I want to make impactful social contributions that would be memorable at the moment of my death"

This is how I live my daily life. It may sound a bit exaggerated, but I feel that the scenery that lies at the end of chat commerce spreading around the world is close to that. In today's information-saturated world, people are faced with choices every day, and they often cannot discern whether those choices are right or wrong. Chat commerce has the potential to assist in making the optimal choice by being close to people's concerns.

"I will do it for the happiness of people around the world."

I want to firmly establish "Chat commerce as the overwhelming No.1" with my passionate and honest colleagues.
